Task 36: Updated storyboard/ animatic & address feedback from storyboard 1

For the storyboard, Dan liked our idea using Panic Room's title sequence shot, however he mentioned how it will be difficult to get a three dimensional affect. Also, Dan suggested we get clear shots of the main character walking during the title sequence so it doesn't get boring watching buildings only and it will make the youth drama more effective by showing the characters movements. He also said we needed to be specific in what type of shots we will be taking in each scenery.

Since it will be difficult to get a three dimensional affect against the buildings, we have decided to keep the text plain so it stands out against the buildings. Dan's suggestion was really helpful and useful, so we have decided to use this suggestion as we believe it will help the audience know the main characters attitude and movements more clearly. The location of our film will definitely be in Hackney and we will be using various shots such as establishing shot, wide shot, close up shot, long shot etc.

Final decisions in light of feedback.

The main problem in our pitch, was the role of the mother. Dan mentioned it would be difficult to find a character to play her role, who looks the age and can act it out realistically. Also, he had mentioned that it would be hard to make a different person, other than the group members to commit to our film. So, we have decided that instead of getting someone to play the role of the mother, we will use someone from our groups voice to show the argument between the mother and son. This will be done by a voice over, were the mothers voice will be heard but she will not be visible. We believe this will be easy to carry out, instead of going through the stress of finding another character. Moreover, Dan mentioned Zahed doesn't fit the role of a bad behaved youth to play the role, so to match the role we decided to use Shakayla's uncle who has agreed to take part. There were problems regarding our location which we have confirmed to be Hackney, most of our sceneries will be from that particular area.

Pitch Feedback.

Questions answered by our classmates:

1. what was good about the about the pitch/ ideas represented?

"I liked how they included a video to demonstrate how they would like to show it"
"The use of garage band to create the music for the opening sequence"
"Liked the prepared indents for the production companies"
"Good use of examples and liked the sound track draft"
"Detailed title sequence plot, showed inspirations"
"I liked how detailed they made the storyboard"
"Clear and easy to understand the basic idea"
"The detail of the storyline and location"

2. What would have made the pitch even better?

"Examples of the type of shots they would use in conjunction to the film that inspired them, which is attack the block"
"Could have made a TimePost for the production schedule"
"Plan specific dates for production using TimeToast"
"Give abetter understanding of how they want to film"
"Closer shots of the story board"

Questions our classmates asked at the end of our pitch were:

Are the two boys going to be from different areas?
No, they will be from the same area, but the area is not a specific theme or problem in our film.

What other locations will you be using?
We will mostly be using the location of Hackney - East London as it is is a usual location for a British youth drama because it creates a "hood" atmosphere.

Do you plan on playing the same track for the whole title sequence?
At the start when the production companies are being shown there will be a different soundtrack. It's only when the main character Marcus puts his headphones in is when that track will begin.

Do you plan on using any special effects?
We plan on using special effects when inputting the titles on the moving image as we want the titles to appear as if they are within the moving image.

Task 23: Which institution/ studio will produce your film?

For our film we chose to have it produced and distributed by 'Legendary Pictures'; notable movies that 'Legendary Pictures have produced are Inception, Dracula Untold, Gozilla (2014), The Hangover Trilogy, 300, Due Date and several others. However, we chose produce and distribute our film with a company we chose to make, 'Luxor Entertainment' this is because due to doing a Youth drama which majority of the time is produced by independent label, it will support the fact that independent labels produce and distribute Youth drama films.
Below is the images of our production and distribution company:

Task 28: 3 real media texts that influenced our film titles

Panic Room: we were influenced by the text in the title credits of Panic Room as it was very appealing due to the fact of how the text appeared on screen. The way we would be able to use them is if we take the same approach in our movie and display the names of the cast on footage of buildings .

Kidulthood: we were influenced by the text in the title credits of Kidulthood due to the title slowly increasing in size with a 'impact' like font which is simply but effective on a blank screen to focus the attention of the viewer. Ways we could use them is on our title and use the effect of zooming into the text gradually.

Ill Manors: the way the font for 'ill Manors' was portrayed influence us becuase within the font the lied an image of the city which the movies based in as well as the writing being bold and placed on a black background to emphasise the title. Ways which we would be able to use this is by placing the location of our movie inside the font of our title to show the whereabouts of the movie.

Task 37: Brand your blog visually

The visual look we had to change for our blog to adapt to our film/genre was that we had to give it a darkish look to correspond to the fact that the film is based on bad influence in a typical estate and how one of the protagonists is effected by staying with the wrong crowd which influences his decision making in the process and causes him to go astray.

We chose to place the film title/logo in the middle which has a ragged font style to show the upbring of the two protagonist as both come from bad backgrounds. The pitch black background behind the font denotes the fact that something bad will take face in the movie; the black background of the blog is to match the films storyline but no entirely. They typical graffiti font on 'Group 33' is to show one of verious acts which are commited in rough neighbours as where our film will be set.

Task 29: Create a sound design

Here is a screenshot of the sound design we created in GarageBand:

Evaluate the Success of your Practical activity

I believe our remake of The Breakfast club title sequence was very successful as we managed to get very similar shots in our college which replicate the shots in the original title sequence. We also added on the same sound track and our own voice over.

Original:

Our Version:

We took the same shots as the original - long shots and establishing shots etc.
However, we could not add in all the scenes due to technical problems and therefore that let us down.

Pitch.

Task 34: Production Schedule

We will be starting our film on Wednesday 28th January at 1:15

Also on a particular day we will start around 11 am to show the character Elijah - this will help set a good vibe that he isn't out late and isn't up to mischief.

Here is the production schedule:

Task 33: Rough Draft of Storyboard 1

1) The aim of our Title Sequence is to start off with an independent label title that we created, 'CandiMedia Productions'. This will be an animated title which we want to have buildings in the background.

2) Our second shot is of another independent label we created 'SchoolBoy productions'. Again we want this to be text on moving images of the bottom part of some flats with a bike on the floor. We want the credit to pan in from the right and sit on the floor of the moving images.

3) The third shot is moving images of the block of one of the characters called 'Marcus'. Outside the blocks in the same shot, there are a group of boys in a gang standing outside. A crew members name will pan it from the left.

4) The fourth shot is a moving image of a canal where our characters hang out. A crew members name will appear panning in diagonally from the right.

5) Again in the fifth shot, the same canal at a different angle, a crew members name will pan in from the left.

6) This shot will show the house of another character, 'Elijah'. We can hear voices of him and his mother having an argument with his mother, straight away it zooms in and pans down to the door.

7) In the seventh shot, Elijah walks out and slams the door - then the film title (Influence) appears.

8) The next shot is of Elijah standing outside the door facing the camera. He has his hood on and his looking down. This will be a closeup shot of his face.

9) We then want a long shot of him walking down the stairs of his block - establishing that he lives in a flat

10) The next shot will be a back shot of him going down his stairs.

11) In the next shot we have a mid shot of Elijah walking through his block and soon passes a group of hooded thugs. We will be able to see the block of flats in the background.

12) In the next shot we follow him to an Off Licence with a long shot.

13) Meanwhile, in this shot, the other boy Marcus is inside the Off Licence buying cigarettes.

14) As Marcus comes out, him and Elijah who are already acquainted from school, meet outside. Elijah tells him about what happened at home, Marcus offers him a cigarette to overcome his emotions.

15) The next shot is a close up shot of Elijah putting the cigarette in his mouth.

16) We then have a close up from behind - Elijah putting his hood up and they both walk away together.

Task 31: Mise en scene - costumes.

We would like costumes similar to the characters from Youngers. This is because it shows both the characters different personalities by the choice of outfit choice and colours they have chosen. But it also shows how even though Yemi is more innocent than Jay, he could be easily influenced because of his body language.

So what we had in mind is that the costume on the right will be something similar to what Marcus will be wearing so it shows his rebellious attitude because of the dark clothing and casual tracksuits and hoodie. Whereas, the costume on the left will be for the character Elijah, this is because we want to show the difference in both the characters personalities through their costumes and this will be shown through costumes similar to these.

Task 25: Plan the order that your title credits will appear in

Mise en scene - location and settings.

For the title sequence we will use the setting of big buildings / flats, along with the scenery of the canal which is shown down-below. Along these buildings the credits will be shown - similar to Panic Room. This will automatically show Marcus living in a flat, with corner shops around the area which will show he is very familiar with his 'local area'.

We would also like to use these settings whilst the character is walking, it will give the audience a sense of idea about the location and area the character is from. The lighting of the two pictures shown are different, however we are aiming for daylight because we want Marcus - the rebellious character - getting out of the house in time to meet his best friend Elijah who is the complete opposite to him.

Task 17: Evaluate the success of your practical activity

In my opinion, I think the remake of The Breakfast Club we did was very successful as we remade the beginning of the movie which corresponded to the original which our own tweaks to the movie like the voice over which was from the original but we add a sound track to the background of the opening sequence to input our stamp on the sequence and to modernise the scene a bit.
...

The images above correspond to the original as we used the exact shot as them for example a establishing shot of the college/high-school and a long-shot of the corridor. However, our remake of The Breakfast Club could have been better as we weren't able to include all the footage due to technical difficulties; if the footage were to be used then maybe the remake would have been perfect which would have included the conversations in the car and the entrances of the characters as well as the influence in the detention room.

Shortlists of font styles and typeface we would like to use.

We liked this typeface, because we thought the style was simple, bold and didn't look too fancy. We would like to use this because it shows that our sub-genre is not High School but Youth Drama.

We also liked this font, because it is completely different from the first typeface shown but it still shows our sub-genre clearly. It also reflects the conflict that might be shown in the title sequence shown by the fades / cracks in each word.

This was our most favourite font. This is because from both the font and typeface shown above you can see each design on this font. The fades / cracks on this look more realistic and help capture the conflict nature that would be represented in the title sequence. Also, it is clearly Youth Drama as the font is not classy or fancy but instead bold and eye catching.

Initial ideas for our film.

We have decided to produce a Youth Drama title sequence on moving image. We've chosen this because we feel we are more familiar with youth culture rather than high school, especially as we live in London, this is more convenient for us when we shoot our footage as we have the right locations. An example of our ideal credit style is:
Our target audience is young adults, around 18-25 years of age. we think this is a good age for our target audience as from previous research we have seen from Kidulthood and ill manor that they have the target audience of 18-25 also.

The film will be about  a character called Marcus who has nothing going for him in life after dropping out of college as well as being from a troubled family background. His best-friend Elijah is also from a troubled family, but unlike Marcus he decided to take a different route and focus on the crucial things in life. Elijah is an ideal student who receives top grades and who is aiming for a bright future. However, soon Marcus gets himself into deep trouble and only Elijah can help him, this influences Elijah to see the other side he's being trying to avoid and ends up picking up habits of using intoxicants and stealing.

The social groups introduced will be teenagers,

Evaluation of practical activity.

Our remake of the breakfast club, was very good. This is because the shots and scenes were quite similar to each other starting from titles on a black screen.

Remake: Original:

Also, establishing shot of the school building and long shot of the hallway were really similar but different. This made it more effective as it wasn't different, and still gave off a high school drama vibe because of the school being represented.

Moreover, the sound track of the film matched the sub-genre and it also matched the atmosphere. The voice over introduced in the title sequence was matched with a smooth backing track, which gives a calm and patient atmosphere.

However, I think the remake of the breakfast club could have been better if we had done the car, and classroom scenes with more thought to link it back to the original title sequence. It would have not only been similar but different with our own style.

Task 18: How to create titles in Motion

Creating titles in Motion can be done whether you want to choose a template provided by the program or create a sequence from scratch. Motion allows you to create titles for movies; the way this is done is by adding what you want too and set a specific timing to how long you want it to be on screen and add effects to how you want it too appear or disappear. Creating several titles on one project is done by going forward to the timeline to getting a blank screen and adding what you desire to add to your title. Templates allow you to add the text to motion/movements and provide a creative edge to your project, whereas motions which are made by oneself may be less complex than the templates design.

Summarise how to create titles in Motion.

Creating titles on motion is really simple, this is because instead of creating your own design you can choose a template from before. This is useful as it gives you an idea of how you want your design and effect to look like, and also gives you a chance to change it around.

After choosing a template, you can change the font and colour scheme of the design, to what you prefer. After changing the colour and font, you can add your own title credits to match the title sequence you are going after.

Task 19: How to create sound tracks in GarageBand...

Creating sound tracks in Garageband consists for choosing any instruments from the provided list that the program gives you. From here on you can choose several different sounds of your choice no matter the type as the program gives you a significant amount. Long sound tracks are made by choosing to loop the sound and adding other sounds to create a musical vibe for a prolonged time.

Blogging Health Check 1

Hi Tahsin, excellent blog so far. You've completed most of the checklist and your posts are thoughtful and detailed, though some of them aren't written with the same degree of depth as the others of your group - notably the post on 'Order of titles' (7th Jn) is missing lots of important specific detail. You use graphics and photos well and it's good to see you using prezi though remember you can use other methods as well - Slideshare, emaze etc. - to present your work. I particularly liked the Target Audiences research, I though this was very well done - just remember to try and extend your writing and give lots of specific detail - your post on Shrek's opening is another that would benefit here. How to create titles in motion

Image result for motion macMotion is used to create titles. A simple start is by selecting a template.
Motion allows you to either make your own sequence from scratch by starting on Blank, or you are able to choose a  template to help you start off a sequence. Once you choose a template, you can add effects and alter the font, style of animation and timing of the appearance it has on screen.

Task 21: Blogging Health Check 1 - Teacher's Feedback

The blogging feedback I received was: 17 posts at health check 1.  This is looking brilliant Zahed - well done.  You are up to date and the quality of the blogs is very good indeed.  You've used ICT really well too.  As we move into the next phase of the production (planning) you should look to develop your use of ICT further by bringing in Thinglink (good moodboard app for planning ideas), Timetoast (good for mapping the opening titles in your sequence) and camtasia to screen cast your ideas.  But a great start - keep up the good work.

18. How to create titles in motion

Creating titles in motion is very useful and easy because there are already templates that you can alter to your own film or title.
If using a template you are given an option of possible templates

Then once chosen all you have to do is change the words and if you want the colour scheme.
